DeWitt Police use drug to revive heroin overdose victim

— The DeWitt Police Department reports that in the early morning hours of Nov. 4, officers used Naloxone (Narcan) to revive an unconscious male who had overdosed of heroin.

Chief of Police James C. Hildmann reports that at 12:27 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 4, police received a call that a male was unconscious and not breathing due to a heroin overdose at the Motel 6 located at 6577 Baptist Way.

Officer Jarod Petrie arrived on scene and found a 35-year-old male lying on his back on the floor of the hotel room who was breathing approximately three breaths-per-minute. DeWitt Police report Officer Petrie administered one milligrams of naloxone into each of the male’s nostrils and the male immediately began to breathe at a normal rate. Within 30-seconds of the dose of Naloxone, the male was conscious and answering questions.

Police say the man refused further medical treatment from EAVES Ambulance Paramedics.
