FAYETTEVILLE – A local husband and wife duo, Lauren and Jared Burdick of Fayetteville, recently decided to combine their interests in running and nutrition into a new business, Miles and Macros LLC.
Miles and Macros, according to the Burdicks, is a place where runners of all skill sets can sign up online and receive virtual coaching and mentoring while achieving desired fitness goals.
“We just launched last week, so we are just trying to spread the word right now, and get our name out there,” Jared said.
While the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic posed many challenges, it also posed opportunities and, at least in part, inspired the Burdicks to launch Miles and Macros.
During the months when much was locked down and people were quarantining, the Burdicks noticed a lot more people were using this time to become more physically active and doing a lot more running.
“I noticed during the pandemic when nobody was able to do anything, that there was a lot of running occurring, the trails were busy, the roads were busy and our online presence brought a lot of people asking questions, and we had the answers,” Lauren said.
Jared is a certified USA Track & Field level one running coach. Over the years he has also participated in different races ranging from 50k to upwards of 100k in distance.
In 2016 he was the first American to finish in the IAU World Trail Championship.
Currently Jared offers a three-tier package option for coaching lessons in running. Tier-one starts at $80 a month, acting as a beginner package for new runners. Tier-two costs $90 a month and is for the more experienced runner; who is looking to build up endurance. Finally, tier-three costs $100 a month and requires a three-month commitment and a one-time commitment to Lauren’s nutritional plan.
Lauren holds multiple certifications from the International Sports Sciences Association related to both nutrition and dieting. She is a certified nutrition consultant and holds a certification in sports nutrition. She has also run for over 10 years. Lauren, who works on the nutritional side of athletic body building, offers two packages and an add on to Jared’s third-tier package. Package one costs $100 and package two cost $120.
“I am into body positivity. I don’t want people to think that they need to have six-pack abs in order to be healthy. Healthy looks different on every single person,” she said.
In the interest of safety, all lessons and coaching are being done virtually at this time.
“It is all virtual, we don’t have to go into contact with people and it works well for people right now with everything going on,” Lauren said. “Having a coach in any capacity is just support, you will always have someone cheering you on, and have someone that is in your corner.”
In addition to their coaching services, the couple has launched online merchandise sales.
The Burdicks are currently offering shirts, sweatshirts, neck gaiters, and handcrafted cutting boards created by Jared.
“We offer shirts and sweatshirts to get our brand name out there, but then Jared just started to do woodworking out of the blue and he got good at it, so we threw some of those up there and they have been selling really well,” Laruen said.
