Cazenovia resident Melissa Zomro Davis was honored Nov. 16 by being included in the 40 under Forty class of 2016 as celebrated by BizEventz, a company in the Business Journal News Network. The awards program recognizes young professionals in the Central New York region for excelling in the workplace and for giving back to their community.
Davis, a Cazenovia College graduate, is a New York State Certified Business Advisor with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), based out of Onondaga Community College.
“I feel honored to be a part of the class of 2016,” Zomro Davis said. “The awardees are truly inspiring and to be one of the 40 chosen out of 150 nominations is remarkable.”
The SBDC, which helps secure funding for small businesses, recently announced that Zomro Davis would provide services from a satellite office at Cazenovia College at 1 Liberty St. by appointment. The organization, which covers six counties in Central New York, has met with 2248 clients, help to create or save 896 jobs and secured more than $23 million in funding for small businesses over the past three years. In Cazenovia during the same time period, Zomro Davis has served 82 clients, created or saved 51 jobs and secured more than $2 million in funding for small businesses.
Davis previously owned, operated and sold a tack shop in the village of Cazenovia called The Show Trunk, which she opened in 2007. While running the tack shop she obtained a P&C license to become an equine insurance agent.
Davis served for five years on the board of the Friends of Lorenzo, currently serves as chair of the board of directors for Cazenovia Community Preschool and just joined the Community Resources for Independent Seniors (CRIS) Time Bank in Cazenovia.
