The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced its 2015-16 Easton Scholar-Athlete Teams, selecting more than 5,000 student-athletes collectively for the honor, including Morrisville State College junior infielder Holly Gamlen, of Cazenovia.
Gamlen, one of 1,124 to earn the recognition at the Division III level, was selected after achieving a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale as required by the NFCA to be nominated.
She completed her sophomore season second on the team in batting, posting a .320 batting average across 97 at bats and 36 games for the Mustangs. Gamlen posted 31 hits on the year, including four doubles, while registering 17 RBIs and eight runs.
A two-time North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Scholar-Athlete selection, Gamlen is a two-sport student-athlete, earning all-Conference honors in both softball and field hockey.
In 2015-16, she was named to the college’s President’s List in each semester and come year end, was named a Student-Athlete of Distinction by the athletic department after finishing the year with a combined 4.0 GPA.
Last fall Gamlen was recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) for her academic excellence as a field hockey student-athlete, earning All-Academic and Commissioner’s List accolades, before also earning a spot on the 2015 ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
A graduate of Cazenovia High, Gamlen is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Tammy and Fred Gamlen of Cazenovia.
