SKANEATELES — Skaneateles Library’s popular summer book sale is back this year and will be held July 16-18 and 24-25 at the village hall at 26 Fennell St.
“We had to decide in April whether to hold the book sale this year,” said book sale leader Mary Giroux. “COVID restrictions were much different then, so we had to plan for limited shoppers and social distancing. To give people more opportunity to browse the many thousands of used books, we decided to hold the sale over two weekends.”
2020’s book sale was canceled because of the pandemic.
“This is such a great event for the community. People look forward to it all year. We were determined that if there was any way to have a book sale in 2021, we were going to do it,” said library director Nickie Marquis. “If conditions continue to improve, the sale will feel pretty close to normal. But of course we’ll need to follow whatever protocols are in place at the time.”
The annual book sale has been an important fundraiser for the library for more than 30 years and remains a significant source of financial support.
“Money raised at the book sale helps pay for things like programs, books for the collection and digital resources,” said Marquis. “These are things we improve and expand every year so we can respond to evolving community needs.”
The sale features more than 20,000 used books, including adult fiction, biography, history, science and other non-fiction, along with a wide variety of books for children and teens. DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks and puzzles will also be for sale.
Prices during the first weekend range from $1 to $3, with some items specially-marked at different amounts.
The bag sale will be held on the second weekend, when shoppers pay just $5 for a library-supplied paper shopping bag and fill it with all the books and other merchandise the bag can hold.
Summer book sale hours are: Friday, July 16 from 9 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 17 from 9 to 6 p.m.; Sunday, July 18 from noon to 4 p.m.; Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25 from noon to 4 p.m. is the bag sale.
