On the YMCA water bill
To the editor:
As a citizen of the Town of Skaneateles and a proud member of the YMCA at the Skaneateles Community Center I feel compelled to write re the issue of overbilled water charges from the town to the YMCA since 2011 totalling $30,000. I have been involved with several fund raising projects for the Y and certainly don’t feel folks donated to pay for overbilling.
My immediate response is that this is simple. If I were a homeowner and was overbilled for electricity, cable, water, etc., I would expect to be properly compensated for the difference. This water situation is no different.
I absolutely agree with Sue Dove. For town councilors to hide behind a flawed law shows poor judgment and a distorted view of “doing the right thing”. As I understand this law it suggests the town doesn’t have to repay the money but doesn’t prohibit them from doing it.
I am confident that the residents of the town would understand the overbilled situation and realize the Y has a right to be fully repaid. So councilors, please don’t hide behind a poor law.
Ironically, many in the town support the Y financially and it’s their money which has been misspent.

Thank you from the family of Marissa Reilly
To the editor:
The family of Marissa Reilly would like to thank all of the Skaneateles community for the outpouring of love and support in remembering Marissa’s life.
For sharing all the wonderful memories of all the things she did her own way, for the many ways she helped others, was a role model for so many people young and old.
The overwhelming response of meals, donations to the gofundme page, the spontaneous vigil at the high school and signing of posters and the yearbook were all greatly appreciated by our family. The sudden passing of our beloved daughter and granddaughter from S.U.D.E.P. (sudden unexplained death of epilepsy patients) has left our family shocked and saddened.
Marissa was a very caring and compassionate person always worrying about other people, so if her passing has helped spark more research into the prevention of S.U.D.E.P. that would be her gift. Please help us keep Marissa’s memory alive and hopefully keep following her examples of how to treat others around us.

My thanks
To the editor:
On Friday Aug. 3 a rehearsal reception with the Heinz/Graham wedding party and guests was held aboard The Judge.
I was there as the couple’s clergy and shortly into the trip became ill.
Transport was possible through Hattie, Stehanie and the rest of the Mid-Lake crew’s immediate attention. SAVES met us at the nearest dock in Mandana. I am most grateful to each and everyone. Their professional and compassionate care brought the unfortunate situation to a healthier conclusion.

The members of MasterWorks Chorale extend our heartfelt thanks to the Skaneateles Area Arts Council (SKARTS) for its generous support of our 2018–19 concert season. The 2018 SKARTS grant will help fund a chamber orchestra to accompany the Chorale as it performs a full version of the beloved Handel’s Messiah at 4 p.m. on Dec. 16 at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Skaneateles.
Each year, MasterWorks Chorale – comprising more than 60 singers from the multi-county CNY region – showcases exceptional choral music in beautiful venues, priced affordably for adults and free through age 18. With the area’s outstanding professional instrumentalists joining in these performances, MasterWorks Chorale offers superb musical events for the entire family. We thank SKARTS for helping to make these exciting programs possible.

Saved my life
To thed editor:
I hereby send a loud and heartfelt thanksto those first-responders who SAVEd my life. On June 27, I almost died of a “widow-maker” heart-attack. But, thanks be to God, the outstanding Skaneateles SAVES Team and the wonderful folks at St. Joseph’s Hospital, I’m alive today. It happened without warning, and in typical fashion I really didn’t want to call “911.” But, I’m sure glad I did. The SAVES Team arrived quickly and – its all still a blur in my mind – they hooked me up just like the “Squad 51” TV Show I used to watch as a kid. The SAVES EMTs are top-guns; true dedication, professionalism and compassion were clearly demonstrated that day. While connecting me to IV’s, hooking up an EKG, radio’ing the hospital the lead EMT (whom I later learned was Ron Kenny), noticed my military memorial bracelet and asked me my branch of service. When I replied “Air Force” he winced and said, “Oh well, I was Army. But, we’ll take you anyways. Chuck, be sure to hit all the pot-holes enroute!”
Seriously, please know how blessed we are to have SAVES in our wonderful small-town. Ron and Chuck followed the latest protocols and expedited me straight into St. Joe’s cardio care, saving my life. I’m now walking five miles a day through our beautiful village – such a blessing; my beautiful wife calls me a walking miracle. Last week I got to meet Ron again when he graciously stopped by my front porch to check-up on me. Wow, such caring professionalism reflects great credit upon our awesome Community. Prior to my 911 call, I had heard many great things about SAVES from friends and neighbors – but, as we used to say on duty – now I are one. Words are not enough to say THANKS to all the SAVES staff and volunteers, and the great neighbors out there that support them. I shall long remember. May you all remain in God’s strength as a life-saving blessing for today, and a great hope for many more tomorrows. And finally, please take this verse to heart as much as I have: “Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” Psalm 31:24.
For God & Country.
