Garden club to host Holly and Ivy Candlelight Holiday Tour
Get a head-start on your holiday season by reveling in an enchanting candlelight holiday tour of five beautiful Skaneateles Bed and Breakfasts all
near the heart of the village. Sponsored by the Skaneateles Garden Club and occurring on Nov. 17 4 to 8 p.m. and Nov. 18 11 to 4 p.m., each historic home will be decorated for the holidays in a different style by talented area florists, designers, and club members.
Carol Young, a club member, will add to the festivites by playing seasonal music on the baby grand at Luxury Suites.
Diane Smith, owner of Colorful Inspirations in Camillus; Mary Schalk, an interior designer; Patty Foley, owner of Foley Florist in Auburn; Sandra Schmidt, owner of Fleur-de-lis Florist; and Tammy Sayre and Lynda Kainke, owners of Blooming Gals in Marcellus, will create their magic in these historic treasures.
Tour includes the following: Benjamin Porter House, a beautifully restored 1805 Federal at 10 State Street, is an historical landmark and one of the oldest homes in the village. Historic Luxury Suites at 34 State Street is the former home of famed artist John D. Barrow who lived from 1839-1906.
Many of his paintings are displayed here and in the Barrow Art Gallery adjoining the Skaneateles Library. Gray House, a charming turn-of-the-century Victorian bed and breakfast, was built at 47 Jordan Street. Lady of the Lake, a romantic Queen-Ann-style inn with many interesting architectural details, graces the corner of West Lake Street and Genesee Street. Arbor House Inn and Suites at 41 Fennell Street is a Victorian Inn boasting of decorative etched glass windows, antiques and fireplaces.
Profits from garden-club events are used to fund various beautification projects in Skaneateles including the crab-tree planting at Austin Park, flower boxes at the library, and summer hanging baskets.

A”will-call” area will be set up at the First Presbyterian Church at 97 Genesee St. at times of the tour at the side entrance for obtaining maps and tour information or for purchasing tickets.
