JEHS junior named Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES student of the month
Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES named Jordan-Elbridge High School junior Reid Webster its student of the month for September. Webster is enrolled in the first of a two-year applied electrical technology program and takes classes at BOCES in the afternoon. Each month, BOCES recognizes one junior and one senior.
Webster likes the program because of its hands-on nature and said he was proud to earn the award.
“This feels good. I work hard to complete my work,” he said.
According to BOCES, students in the applied electrical technology program are involved in “live” work on off-campus construction and restoration sites. Students learn the fundamentals of residential wiring, and can continue on to a second year where they learn electrical codes and their interpretations and more.
JEHS principal David Zehner said about 24 students go to BOCES daily to take classes in various trades such as auto technology, heavy equipment and computer networking.
“This is a great program for our students,” he said. “It teaches them a trade they can immediately translate into a job.”
