The senior living facility project that has been described as a “cruise ship on land” has opened on Medical Center Drive in Manlius, and on Oct. 5 will celebrate a grand opening.
The Towne Center Retirement Community opened its doors to residents on Aug. 1 following 14 months of construction, and about half of the 128 apartment have already been rented, said Kelly Jo Hinrichs, Marketing Director for Resort Lifestyle Communities (RLS), the company who brought the project to the area.
RLS is a national company that builds and maintains all-inclusive senior living apartment facilities, which they describe as “luxurious independent senior living.” The Manlius location at 3900 Medical Center Drive is the first community to open in New York state, and includes an 18,000-square-foot, three-floor senior living facility that includes 128 units of one-, two- and three- bedroom apartments. The minimum age for residents is 55.
Monthly rent prices range from $2,900 for a studio apartment to $4,750 for a three-bedroom, and includes utilities, wifi, cable, dining, garbage disposal, weekly housekeeping and transportation as well as opportunities to become involved in the clubs and organizations that a lifestyle director for the apartments organizes.
Resort Lifestyle Communities gained approval for a special use permit from the Manlius Town Board in April 2015. During the public hearing process, neighbors of the Starview subdivision next to the project voiced concerns regarding increased traffic in that area. Hinrichs said the company plans to have their employees shift changes at time to not interfere with high peak traffic on Burdick Street.
The facility will include several elements that are open to the community, such as a stadium seating theater available to rent. The facility will also house a salon/barber, banking services, a pharmacy/gift shop, a resident library and a billiards room.
“We are happy to share ‘Main Street’ with local residents and families in the neighborhood,” said Hinrichs.
From 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, a grand opening will be held that is free and open to the public. It will include tours of the facilities, samples of food that is served at the dining area, live music from local band LuBossa and a chance to meet the live-in managers, Gary and Sandy Sesco.
