Friends of Marcellus Park seek photos
Friends of Marcellus Park, a not-for-profit organization, is looking for photos of the park to be reproduced as salable items.
As a fundraising project, Friends of Marcellus Park plan to produce and sell note cards or photos/collages of the park during Olde Home Days and Holiday Happening in June.
“We have some really good photographers in this area,” Corresponding Secretary of the Friends of Marcellus Park and leader of photo committee, Barbara Snyder said “Some are amateur but really good at taking pictures.”
They are now looking for donations of photos of the park including four seasonal photos of one place in the park.
“It would be beautiful to have four seasons in one frame,” Snyder said. “Even the trees, you look at them in four different stages, it makes a very nice contrast.”
Other pictures that can show the beauty of the park are also welcome.
“We are looking for something interesting and people would recognize as Marcellus Park,” Snyder said. “Like the bridge or the gazebo.”
Aside from using the submitted photos for note cards and photo collages, the photos maybe also used for other sale items like jigsaw puzzles of the playground or a coffee mug.
“We already have many old photos of the park, some of them may be reproduced,” Snyder said. “Depends on how many we will get, then we will decide how many to use based on the way the pictures show Marcellus Park.”
The money raised from these items will be used for the newest project at the park, a fitness trail.
There is one main trail around the park now and what Friends of Marcellus Park are raising money to buy the fitness equipment for the trail.
“We are only approved to buy three pieces of equipment,” Snyder said. “People walk in the park all the time, this is something they can do on the trail.”
The planned equipment includes step off platform, push up and pull up bar and balance beam.
The photos will become the property of Friends of Marcellus Park so they can be used for fundraising items.
Credit for the photo will be on the back of the note card and on the front of the photo or collage.
The members at Friends of Marcellus Park are all volunteers and although they have less than 10 people, they did some impressive things to help maintain the park.
They raised $80,000 dollars for playground in the park; they renovated the Welcome Center by adding better heating and new air conditioning; they paid for the shelter and the wall of the park; they even replaced water fountains.
“Everything we do is group effort, everybody is dedicated to the park,” Snyder said. “We work together for the park and try to make the park a better place.”
Friends of Marcellus Park also have other fundraising events like selling food at the music concerts and Olde Home Days.
“We are just doing things that will make the park beautiful place and have lots of things that people can do,” Snyder said.
