Road work is impacting traffic at both the northwest and southeast corners of Galeville.
Paving at the intersection of Buckley Road and Seventh North Streets to the southeast began Sept. 14, and the same day work crews started digging at the corner of Old Liverpool Road and Electrics Parkway to the northwest.
At that work site, Onondaga County Department of Transportation is replacing the slip ramp from Old Liverpool Road’s westbound lane onto Electronics Parkway with a conventional right-turn lane. The project has been in the works for more than a year.
County and town officials think the intersection is the scene of too many accidents.
“This will eliminate those close calls,” said Salina Town Supervisor Mark Nicotra. “It’ll make it a safer way to travel and will have some benefits for pedestrians as well.”
At Seventh North and Buckley, milling of the intersection is taking place during the day while paving proceeds at night, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Seventh North Street and Buckley Road will remain open during the milling and paving, but there will be single lane, alternating traffic controlled by flag persons.
Both projects are expected to be finished by the end of this construction season.
GOP heavy hitters here
Freshman Congressman John Katko (R-Camillus) joined an impressive array of Onondaga County’s top Republicans in Liverpool last week at a Town of Salina Republican fund-raiser on Sept. 15, at the Barking Gull. Also attending were Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney, DA Bill Fitzpatrick, the new sheriff, Gene Conway, county legislators Judy Tassone and Kathy Rapp and legislature Chairman Ryan McMahon.
Former legislature chairman Bill Sanford of Liverpool was there, along with Liverpool Mayor Gary White, Deputy Mayor Nick Kochan and Trustee Christina Fadden Fitch. Town Supervisor Mark Nicotra emceed the gathering and welcomed First Ward Councilor Colleen Gunnip, who lives in Liverpool, and the GOP’s 128th Assembly candidate John Sharon.
The $100-per Sept. 15 fund-raiser was hosted by Salina Town Republican Committee Chairman Bill Tassone.
From Hollywood to Heid’s
The Harleys were lined up as long as the eye could see as Hollywood came to the village on Sept. 15, when actor Tom Berenger shot scenes at both Heid’s and Limp Lizard Barbecue.
Berenger, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in “Platoon,” and his cast and crew are making a biker movie called “American Dresser,” directed by Long Island filmmaker Carmine Cangialosi.
