Top-notch competition was everywhere, and Baldwinsville’s track and field teams spent the large part of Wednesday’s Section III Class AA championship meet at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium trying to measure up.
In each of the two divisions, the Bees would finish seventh, getting 35 points on the girls side and 31 points on the boys side. Fayetteville-Manlius swept the AA titles, with C-NS second in the boys meet and Rome Free Academy second in the girls meet.
Contending for the title in the 4×400 relay, the girls Bees’ quartet of Rachael Miller, Kelley Hull, Marissa Lathrop and Tina Bartelli finished second in 4:05.06 as RFA prevailed in 4:02.91.
Miller made her way to third place in the 800-meter run in 2:24.86, while Lathrop was fifth in 2:27.80 as Lathrop made her way to sixth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.66, with Hull ninth and Claire McMahan 10th.
Hailey Couchman, joined by Rebecca Lawrence, Anna Demer and Brittany LaRock, were fifth in the 4×400 relay in 52.52 seconds, with Couchman sixth in the long jump by going 16 feet 6 ½ inches. Brittany LaRock cleared 8’6” in the pole vault and finished in a tie for fifth.
Elizabeth Fawwaz went 7:58.38 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase to take fourth place, with Nadine Dickter fifth in 8:06.32. Bartelli got eighth place in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.84 and Haleigh Jaquint was eighth (33’11 ¼”) in the triple jump.
Meanwhile, in the boys meet, Evan Donahuser led B’ville, making his way to second place in the 110 high hurdles in 16.02 seconds behind C-NS’s Ed Mahana (15.60 seconds).
Sam Smith, in the 400 hurdles, posted 1:01.60 and, like Donhauser, finished second behind Mahana, who won in 58.27 seconds as Kenny Stehle finished fourth in 1:02.67.
B’ville also did well in the 4×800 relay, where Brennan LaQUe, Evan Vannatta, Denis Keegan and Mike Boyce got to third place in 8:15.79. Vannatta, LaQue, Kieren Sheriden and Andrew Carter were fourth in the 4×400 relay in 3:33.61 as the Bees took seventh (46.18 seconds) in the 4×100.
Martin Sak had a sixth-place long jump of 18’6 ¼” and took seventh (37’4 ¾”) in the triple jump. Joey Frink, in 10:19.30, got ninth place in the 3,200-meter run. Vannatta took ninth place in the 400 sprint in 52.79 seconds. Ryan Delola (10:54.71) beat Colin Spaulding (11:04.01) for ninth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Kellner also was ninth in the mile in 4:35.90, with Dan Conlan 10th in 4:36.33 after he finished ninth (2:03.49), two spots ahead of LaQue, in the 800. Calvin Tanguay took ninth place (12.39 seconds) in the 100-meter dash.
