Cicero Town Councilor Mark Venesky has announced his intention to seek the supervisor’s seat in the upcoming town elections in November.
Venesky announced his candidacy April 13 at the Brewerton waterfront.
“Our vision of revitalization and job creation is not limited to this northern end of town, but straight down Route 11 to where I was born and raised, North Syracuse, with its continued job creation in Hancock Air Park; east past the great recreational center that is our Oneida Lake to the great people of Bridgeport,” he said. “We will develop sustainable win-win opportunities for both our residents and our business community. And as supervisor, I will bring with me a strategic vision, financial management expertise and a solid commitment to our community.”
Venesky hopes to replace outgoing Supervisor Jessica Zambrano, a Republican who is not seeking reelection.
Venesky, a former account executive for UPS, has served one term with the Cicero Town Board, having been elected in 2013. He became active in town politics in 2012, serving on the town’s Open Government Committee and the Cicero Police Department’s Quality Assurance Committee.
“As councilor I have gained invaluable insight and understanding of where our town is headed fiscally having reviewed the budget line by line with our comptroller and with each department head,” Venesky said. “I will bring to the office of supervisor a fresh approach to problem solving and long term planning. My commitment to Cicero is as steadfast as it was from the onset. I am excited by the opportunities that lay before us.”
Also running on the Republican ticket are Councilors Bill Cushman and Vern Conway, Town Clerk Tracy Cosilmon, Highway Superintendent Chris Woznica and Tax Receiver Sharon Edick, all incumbents. The Democrats have not yet announced their slate.
