B’ville girls swimmers defeat C-NS, 50-44

Back home following a hard-fought defeat to Liverpool on Oct. 4, the Baldwinsville girls swim team did not waste much time returning to the win column.

Though Tuesday’s meet against visiting Cicero-North Syracuse proved close on points, the Bees won all but one event on the ledger, and defeated the Northstars 50-44.

Four B’ville swimmers won two times apiece, starting with Noelle Staso, who took the 200 freestyle in 2:06.24 and added a 500 freestyle title in 5:45.44, with C-NS’s Lauren Thorne second in both races.

Brooke Atkinson pulled away for an easy victory in the 200 individual medley, her time of 2:25.24 nearly 13 seconds better than the Northstars’ Jamie Rolf (2:38.22), while she went on and beat Rolf, 1:15.89 to 1:17.34, in the 100 backstroke.

In a close 50 freestyle, Alexandra Connor, in 26.77 seconds, fended off C-NS star Breanna Ruffrage (27.07 seconds), following that up in the 100 butterfly with another victory in 1:03.33. Samantha Sidorakis beat Ruffrage, 58.47 seconds to 59.57, in the 100 freestyle, and was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.34 as teammate Cassandra Cherebin (1:09.04) was second.

B’ville also won two of the three relays. Amanda Johnson, Lauren Burchill, Emma Atkinson and Sarah Lindovski needed 1:59.25 to prevail in the 200 medley relay, long before Staso joined Lindovski, Johnson and Lauren Guild as the Bees won the 400 freestyle relay, edging C-NS, 4:05.42 to 4:06.05 for the Northstars.

Next Thursday, B’ville will have another big home meet, this one against Jamesville-DeWitt, this after a Tuesday contest against the combined Syracuse city squad.
