Only Fayetteville-Manlius has proved able to get past the Baldwinsville girls tennis team as it rolled toward yet another CNY Counties League National division regular-season championship and built a 10-1 record.
The Bees gained particular satisfaction from last Wednesday’s match against Liverpool, where a doubles sweep, capped by a three-set marathon, helped produce a 6-1 victory over the Warriors.
In fourth doubles, B’ville’s team of Dalia Alafifi and Jennifer Stone were pushed to a pair of long sets, and then a third-set tie-breaker, by Liverpool’s Hannah Foster and Megan Reilly, but still won the match 7-5, 5-7, 7-6.
But the other doubles matches were far more lopsided. Taylor Ferrari and Natalie Kot handled Hailey Evert and Alexandra Ioannidis 6-2, 6-1, with Hannah Mautz and Katherine Schumacher topping Monica Johnson and Julie Pento 6-2, 6-0. Lauren Dusse and Taylor Slink produced a 6-0, 6-1 romp over Holly Glor and Julie Stagnitta.
Up in singles, Maddie Quilter lost, 6-2, 6-2, to the Warriors’ Katie Padden, but Kahlei Reisinger made up for it, smashing past Nicolette Hamilton 6-0, 6-0 as Adriana Speech, in third singles, had her own 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Rachel Foster.
B’ville had no trouble in last Monday’s match against Syracuse West, cruising to a 7-0 shutout as Kahlei Reisinger blanked Elaine Dermady 6-0, 6-0 to start the singles sweep. Adriana Speech beat Jessica Hodell 6-2, 6-3, while Maddie Quilter took out Duong Diep 6-2, 6-0.
In the four doubles matches, the teams of Taylor Ferrari-Natatlie Kot, Hannah Mautz-Katherine Schumacher and Lauren Dusse-Taylor Slink did not give up a single game in six combined sets. It only lasted a bit longer for Julia Costello and Marissa Tommarello in a 6-1, 6-0 sweep over Destany Finney and Tylah Worrell.
Then, after beating Liverpool, B’ville took out the other city team, Syracuse East, 7-0 on Friday, with Reisinger and Speech both winning 6-0, 6-0 matches over, respectively, Mei Lin Luzadis and Francine Yanchik, while Fiello handled Yen Hinh Le 6-1, 6-2.
Quilter teamed with Maggie Alfonso in doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Essah Paw and Lillian Troung, with Ferrari and Kot ripping past Eve Llanos and Rachel Parrillo in another 6-0, 6-0 match. Mautz and Schumacher had a 6-0, 6-3 win over Quynh Le and Anhtu Nguyen as Dusse and Slink gained a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Annie Phan and Lillian Phan.
