All of the other matches were settled in Wednesday afternoon’s girls tennis showdown between Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool, with the two sides tied at three points apiece.
So it was down to the first doubles match between the Northstars’ tandem of Richelle Brousseau and Kristin Inthirakot and the Warriors’ duo of Alexandra Ioannidis and Katelyn Nguyen.
Taking control early, Ionaddis and Nguyen won the first set 6-3, and pushed the second set to a tie-breaker. But Brousseau and Inthirakot won that set, 7-6, and with a key break of serve late in the third set, won it 7-5 to give C-NS the clinching point in a 4-3 victory.
Of the three singles matches, two went to the Northstars. Brooke Murphy turned back Nicolette Hamilton 6-3, 6-3, while Hannah Simmons rolled past Rachel Foster 6-0, 6-2. Liverpool countered with Katey Padden defeating Stefani Reynolds 6-3, 6-1.
Meanwhile, in doubles Abby Ellis and Megan Tully gave C-NS another point, holding off Kristin Glor and Julie Stagnitta 6-4, 7-5.
The Warriors saw Chloe Foster and Megan Reilly work past Erin Tully and Jillian Moczara 6-3, 7-5, while in three sets Monica Johnson and Julie Pento rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 decision over Elena Iaconis and Julie Osborne.
But Brousseau and Inthirakot rallied, too, and C-NS won, as it did last Monday afternoon when it put together a strong all-around effort to beat Syracuse West 6-1.
Brousseau, teamed with Bethany Wicks, ignited a doubles sweep, beating Thao Nguyen and Tylah Worrell in a pair of 6-1 sets. Intharakot and Simmons handled Mya Edwards and My Huyen Tran 6-2, 6-1.
Iaconis and Osborne earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Therese Kinne and Taylor Robinson 6-3, 6-1. Ellis and Megan Tully prevailed over Destiny Finney and Alissa Jaquin 6-3, 6-0.
In singles, where Madison Murphy lost to Elaine Dermady 7-6, 6-4, Brooke Murphy did manage to beat Duong Diep 6-3, 6-2, while Reynolds got a 6-3, 6-3 sweep over Jessica Hodell.
Liverpool was back in action on Tuesday, losing to Oneida in another 6-1 match. In single-set matches to 10 games, Ioannidis and Nguyen got the Warriors’ lone point, beating Jillian Brodock and Jenna Russ 10-8.
Foster played in the closest singles match, falling to Rachel Markle 10-5 as Hamilton and Padden had just five total games in losses to Jenna Didio and Connie Froass.
