The 16-year-old Manlius teen who was arrested in August after admitting his role in the Lakeland Park bathhouse graffiti incident has a curfew, mandated community service and a date to reappear in village court on Nov. 6.
The teen, whose name cannot be released because he is a minor, was arraigned Sept. 4 in Cazenovia Village Court by Judge Timothy Moore. The defendant appeared with his attorney, Thomas Cerio, to face initial arraignment on the Class E felony charge of criminal mischief for his role in spray painting the four-foot-long word “Loner” on the Lakeland Park bathhouse in early August.
Moore issued a 10 p.m. curfew for the teen and mandated that he complete 15 hours of community service before he returns to court on Nov. 6, according to court records. Although such cases involving a minor are generally closed to the public after the defendant’s attorney asks for youthful offender status, in this case Cerio did not request such status, therefore the records are public.
On the teen’s Nov. 6 reappearance in village court, Madison County District Attorney William G. Gabor will be present for final resolution of the case. Moore has indicated that the teen will have to pay restitution to the village for the cost of the damage caused by the graffiti, although the final amount of that restitution will be determined by the district attorney, according to court records.
The Manlius teen turned himself in to village police and was arrested on Aug. 14. Although there have been more than 15 graffiti incidents in the village since July, the teen admitted only to the Lakeland Park incident. Cazenovia Village Police continue to investigate the crimes and believe there are three more suspects still at large.
Police continue to ask community members who see or know anything relating to the graffiti crimes to call the village police immediately, even anonymously, at 655-3276.
