Gathering together all of its disparate pieces, the Skaneateles girls indoor track and field team emerged from Thursday night’s OHSL Liberty/Patriot division championship meet at SRC Arena with a second-place finish.
Of the 14 teams in the field, Skaneateles, with 73 points, topped everyone except its fellow Lakers from Cazenovia, who emerged with the title by earning 131 points.
Freshman Kaitlyn Neal was victorious in the 3,000-meter run, where she finished in 10 minutes, 40.25 seconds, topping CBA’s Megan Ann Pierce by 7.15 seconds. Neal’s teammate, Jenn DeRosa, was fifth in 11:44.13.
Megan Molnar also prevailed, in the pole vault, clearing the same height (8 feet 6 inches) as Cazenovia’s Liz Pittman, but doing so with fewer misses to get the top spot.
In the 4×200 relay, Emma Ford, Corrine LaFrance, Ashley Bonocore and Jane Gaffney finished second in 1:56.87 as Cazenovia (1:50.86) prevailed. Individually, Ford had a second-place high jump of 4’9” as she (7.82 seconds) and LaFrance (7.89 seconds) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 55-meter dash.
Liz Dwyer, Julia Willcox, Aubreah Lynn and Jane Gaffney ran to third place in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.94, while DeRosa, Morel Malcolm, Maggie Dunn and Maria Schillace were third (10:48.92) in the 4×800. Madeline Adams was fourth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:16.89. Taylor Woodruff took fourth in the 300-meter dash in 44.44 seconds.
Willcox took sixth (1:55.29) in the 600-meter run, with Dwyer fifth (5:19.64) and Malcolm (5:19.78) sixth in the 1,500-meter run. Mallorie Olin earned fifth in the shot put (26’ 2 ½”), with Natalie Roche fifth in the triple jump (29’ 3 ¼”) as Alex Clark was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles.
When the boys OHSL Liberty/Patriot meet took place last Wednesday night, Skaneateles picked up 29 points, putting them in sixth place, exactly in the middle of a 12-team field. Westhill/Bishop Ludden and Solvay (93 points) shared the top spot.
Carson Schwab earned another victory in the pole vault. By clearing 12 feet, Schwab claimed his battle with Solvay’s Josh Marotti, who was second by topping 11’6”.
In the 4×800 relay, Max Dwyer, Nick Smolenski, Dan Wolfanger and Patrick Biver earned second place in 3:40.63, edged out at the wire by CBA, who won in 3:39.74.
Nate Molnar earned third place in the shot put, heaving it 43’4 ¾”, while the Lakers gained a fourth-place time of 1:41.53 in the 4×200 relay, Smolenski also taking part in this relay with Ethan Johanns and Dan Stabile.
Ari Hristoduolou was seventh in the long jump, going 17’5 ½”, just 2 ½ inches out of the points, while Connor Hurley was ninth (34’11 ¾”) in the triple jump and Scott Harrop took ninth in the 55-meter dash. Ty Winkleman was 12th in the 300-meter dash and Walker Porter took 13th in the 600-meter run.
