Residents interested in learning more about the possible impact of hydrofracking in greater Baldwinsville are invited to attend the next meeting of the Van Buren board.
“We have had people expressing concerns over hydrofracking at our meetings and requesting a ban on this process,” said Supervisor Claude Sykes. “With the differing opinions offered when doing research on the topic, it is hard to separate fact from fiction.”
After fielding concerns regarding the controversial process, officials commissioned Plumley Engineering to investigate the matter. The board initially approached the firm about a month ago and approved the firm’s proposal on Jan. 15.
“Our board is not interested in debating the issues of hydrofracking, as you can find conflicting information on the issues from both sides,” Sykes said. “The board decided that the first step should be to determine what the chances are that drilling might occur in the town of Van Buren. Since Plumley has geologist and geotechnical engineers on staff, and the board is familiar with this local company, the board decided to contract with them to do this report.”
The engineering firm will make a presentation of their report on the chances that hydrofracking will occur in the town of Van Buren during the regular town board meeting held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.
