In a season full of struggles, the Baldwinsville girls basketball team had a chance to turn that around, at least in a couple of instances, but could not pull it off.
The Bees went to Liverpool last Tuesday and were right in the contest until the fourth quarter, when things got away in a 34-25 loss to the Warriors.
Both teams had a difficult time picking up baskets in the first quarter. So B’ville only trailed 4-3, and as the pace picked up in the game’s middle stages, it overcame a 15-11 halftime deficit, tying it, 19-19, going to the final period.
Only now did the Warriors get control, because it managed to shut down most of the Bees’ players. All of the Bees’ field goals came from just two players – Gabi Jordan, who finished with 15 points, and Emily Pascale, who earned six points.
By contrast, three Liverpool players were productive as Katie Dalton led with 13 points, Emma Lamison added eight points and Rachael Windhausen got seven points.
It was much the same story Friday, against Corcoran, only with more points on the ledger as the Bees again played tough – and again lost by the same nine-point margin, falling to the Cougars 55-46.
Unlike with Liverpool, at no time did B’ville’s attack face a serious slump. It mostly traded baskets with Corcoran through a tight first half, only trailing 26-25 at the break.
From there, and until the final minutes, the Bees hung close, in large part due to Jordan, who led her side with 17 points as Hope DeFazio got nine points. Maureen Thayer and Morgan Marshall earned six points apiece.
Corcoran got away at the end, though, as Jasmine Davis (19 points), Jalaya Bryant (13 points) and Zachia Gayle (10 points) all reached double figures. B’ville fell to 2-9 and makes trips to Nottingham and Central Square this week.
