As the fields grew larger and the competition tougher, the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams tried to make its mark during the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
In the girls meet Wednesday night, the Lakers earned 15 points, finishing alone in 11th place, but tops among small-school entrants. With 95 points, Fayetteville-Manlius easily claimed another team title.
Skaneateles contended in the distance medley relay, where Liz Dwyer, Jennifer DeRosa, Jane Gaffney and Kaitlyn Neal picked up a time of 13 minutes, 13.11 seconds and slid into third place. Only F-M (12:34.21) and Liverpool (13:04.02) fared better.
In the 4×400 relay, the Lakers were fifth as DeRosa, Gaffney, Emma Ford and Julia Willcox posted a time of 4:28.05. Neal, on her own, gained a point by running 1,000 meters in 3:12.43, good for sixth place, while Dwyer took ninth (1:50.88) in the 600-meter run.
Among individuals, Megan Molnar had the best finish, in the pole vault, where she cleared 8 feet and took solo third place. West Genesee’s Abby Uczen (9’9”) prevailed.
Morel Malcolm made her way to ninth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:21.71 and Natalie Roche got to 12th in the triple jump. Virginia Hamlin was 13th (12:52.45) in the 3,000-meter run, while Ford took 14th in the long jump. Corrine LaFrance was 15th in the 55-meter dash Alex Clark was 16th in the 55-meter hurdles and Aubreah Lynn was 16th in the high jump.
Skaneateles saw its boys team go first last Tuesday night in the boys edition of the Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational, earning 13 points to snare 13th place, right in the middle of a 26-team field. F-M (69 points) went to the top again.
The Lakers had, by far, its best relay performance of the winter in the 4×400. Dan Wolfanger, Nick Smolenski, Dan Stabile and Patrick Biver finished in a time of 3:48.66, putting them in third place, not far from West Genesee’s winning time of 3:45.40.
Also earning a point in the 1,600 sprint medley, Skaneateles saw Biver, Smolenski, Wolfanger and Max Dwyer get to a time of 3:55.10 and claim sixth place.
Over in the pole vault, Carson Schwab had a tie for third place, sharing it with Tully’s Noah Paccia as both cleared 11’6″. Jamesville-DeWitt’s Zach Leibmann won with a 13-foot clearance as Schwab’s teammate, Dan Sakal, took ninth place. Nate Molnar was 12th (39’9 ½”) in the shot put.
