Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams both sought high honors when they returned to SRC Arena for last week’s Bob Grieve Memorial Invitational.
Going first, the boys Bees managed 30 points, sharing fourth place with Cicero-North Syracuse in a crowded 26-team event. Once again, Fayetteville-Manlius (69 points) finished in front.
In the distance medley relay, Andy Fleming, Josh Perez, Nate Wicks and Alec Peinkofer recorded a time of 10:36.60, pulling away from everyone except F-M, who won in 10:33.44. They both finished more than 20 seconds clear of the rest of the field.
Shay Sargeant battled Oswego’s Cory Keefe for the 55-meter dash title, and Sargeant finished in 6.69 seconds, only to have Keefe (6.66 seconds) inch in front, leaving Sargeant in second place.
Not long after that, Sargeant, teaming with Peinkofer, Ricky Sparks and Jeff Mahar, slid into third place in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 3:50.75.
Fleming took fourth place in the 1,000-meter run in 2:45.56, while Perez gained sixth place in the mile in 4:43.52 and Brennan LaQue was sixth (1:30.44) in the 600-meter run. The Bees got ninth in the 4×400 relay (3:59.92) as Dan Walker took 10th in the 300-meter dash and Ryan Delola was 11th in the 3,200-meter run.
In field events, Logan Marr had the best effort, clearing 11 feet 3 inches for fifth place in the pole vault as Drew Molinet finished 13th. Sam Smith was 11th in the triple jump, going 36’9 ¼”.
A night later, the girls Grieve meet saw B’ville nearly earn the same total – 28 points this time – but it put them in a tie for fifth place with Nottingham, further removed from F-M’s winning aggregate of 95 points.
Angelica Tomasello had the Bees’ biggest star turn, winning the 300 sprint. In a time of 43.73 seconds, Tomasello was the lone athlete to break the 44-second mark as F-M’s Olivia Ryan (44.31 seconds) earned second place.
In the high jump, Emily Soeder vied with East Syracuse-Minoa’s Nina Zesky for top honors, and Soeder cleared 5 feet, which put her in second place as Zesky (5’1”) won it.
Contending in the 1,600 sprint medley, the Bees saw Tomasello, Mackenzie Ross, Elise Seifritz and Ceira Allen grab second place in 4:25.81, a mark only F-M (4:20.81) could top. B’ville also was sixth in the distance medley, where Kelley Hull, Emily McComb, Maizy Ludden and Emily Thompson posted a time of 13:55.71.
Marissa Lathrop took sixth (11:14.08) in the 3,000-meter run, earning a point, while Hannah Wood just missed that mark, getting seventh (9.84 seconds) in the 55 hurdles and Stephanie Vasteno was seventh (7.85 seconds) in the 55 sprint.
Mia Bolton was eighth (5:20.77) in the 1,500-meter run. Soeder went to eighth in the triple jump with 29’5”, while Melissa Voyer had a ninth-place long jump of 14’9 ¼”. Ross took 10th in the 1,000 and Hull was 11th in the 600.
