For two weeks, the Cazenovia boys basketball team went through a mixture of practice and rest, but saw no game action as the calendar turned to 2013.
But when that rest ended, the Lakers were ready, as Institute of Technology Central found out Friday night, Cazenovia prevailing by a score of 65-55 at Buckley Gym.
Having not played since a Dec, 21 loss at Skaneateles, Cazenovia had plenty of time to regroup, work on weaknesses and reenergize – all of which it did to a successful degree, if the ITC game was any indication.
Defense keyed the Lakers’ early efforts, as it held the Eagles to just five points in the first quarter. Gradually, ITC’s attack picked up, but Cazenovia always answered it, making its big move when it outscored the visitors 24-16 in the third period to make it 48-33.
As he had done early this season, Ryman Seeley found open shots and made them, getting 24 points from a trio of 3-pointers and nine successful free throws.
Andrew Vogl stepped in for 14 points, while Kevin Hopsicker finished with 10 points. Ross Gerber and Jeff Dewan each got six points. Lucas Irzary led ITC with 17 points.
It started a stretch where the Lakers would play four times in eight days. After hosting Faith Heritage in a non-league game on Monday, Cazenovia visits Solvay on Wednesday and is back home Friday to take on Syracuse Academy of Science.
