A 2-year-old girl who was the victim of an assault on New Year’s Eve has died.
Danielle Cashaw of Enders Drive in Mattydale died Thursday afternoon as a result of injuries suffered during an assault committed by Sharif K. Hamilton, 21. Hamilton lived with Danielle and her mother at Orchard Estates Apartments.
Hamilton was charged with assault in the first degree, a class B felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, after a child living with him was injured, according to Sheriff Kevin Walsh. He was being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
The sheriff said that the department has turned the case over the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office to determine what further charges will be filed against Hamilton.

A Salina man has been charged with a felony and misdemeanor in connection with the assault of a 2-year-old girl Monday morning.

The girl lives with Hamilton and her mother in Orchard Estates in Mattydale. She was injured this morning; the sheriff did not detail her injuries. Deputies questioned Hamilton with regard to her injuries and later charged him.
Hamilton was arraigned in Geddes Town Court. He was lodged in the Justice Center on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
The girl’s mother was not charged. She is listed in critical condition at University Hospital.
