Though it enjoyed beating main rival Marcellus 46-36 on Dec. 15, the Skaneateles wrestling team did not get that much time to enjoy it.
For the Lakers were back on the mat four nights later, this time to visit Chittenango, and the Bears were far from hospitable, easily prevailing by a score of 59-21.
They started at 145 pounds, and Chittenango proceeded to win each of the first four matches, all through pins, giving Skaneateles a 24-0 deficit from which it could not recover.
Still, the Lakers had some bright moments, starting at 182 pounds, where Connor Gray pinned Nick Harrington in 3:20. Two matches later, at 220 pounds, Cooper Ptiman needed just 1:20 to gain a pin over Ken Miscerola.
Only two other times did the Lakers prevail. Joey Brillo, at 106 pounds, claimed a forfeit, while Josh Brillo worked at 126 pounds for an 8-3 decision over Rob Tyson.
Both Nevan Rourke (99 pounds) and Andrew Newton (132 pounds) had close calls, though, as Rourke lost a 4-3 decision to Cooper Young and Newton fell to Will Young 6-4.
Skaneateles will wrestle once during the holiday break, going to the North Country, and to Copenhagen, for Friday’s Lewis County Duals to face the likes of Lowville, Beaver River, South Lewis, Ilion and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. The Lakers’ next league match is Jan. 3 at Hannibal.
