Perhaps catching a break, the Cazenovia girls cross country team took a full lineup into last Wednesday’s meet against Jordan-Elbridge, and together it produced a 15-51 romp over the Eagles.
J-E was without its top runner, Abby Gugel. In her absence, Jeannette Cudney prevailed again, just as she did at the Sept. 29 Central Square Invitational, winning in a time of 19 minutes, 44 seconds.
More than half a minute behind Cudney, Megan Stanford eased into second place in 20:19. Mimi Gabor was third, in 20:29, well clear of Margaret Wolsey (21:38) in fourth place as Malone Gabor (22:08) completed a top-five sweep.
Adrien Owens led the next Laker wave, finishing sixth in 22:14, half a minute clear of Mya Walters (22:44) in seventh place. Lucy Shephard was ninth (24:16) and Jessie Matt was 10th in 24:33.
During the Cazenovia boys’ 21-37 defeat to J-E, Sean Satchwell nearly ran down Eagles star Jack Gugel, though Satchwell settled for second place in 18:05, nine seconds behind Gugel.
Kevin Ridings made his way to fifth place, in 18:44, while Austin Milton was sixth in 18:52. Drew Devendorf, in ninth place (19:38), and Matt Mistur, in 10th place (19:46), also had solid efforts.
Satchwell would gain a victory at Saturday’s Sherburne-Earlville Invitational, where his time of 18:26.7 was nearly half a minute in front of the field. Ridings ran to 10th place, in 19:43.8, just ahead of Devendorf (19:53.1) in 11th place. Mistur finished 17th in 20:44.7.
