Bad weather hit Central New York Tuesday and, playing it safe, Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse did not have their first of two regular-season field hockey showdowns.
So now the Warriors and Northstars will meet twice in a 10-day span late in the season, starting Oct. 9 at Bragman Stadium (making up this postponement) and continuing on Oct. 18 at LHS Stadium.
As they both continued the long wait for the neighborhood rivalry to resume, the Warriors and Northstars both flourished against other opponents,
Emma Lamison’s production continued to pick up in last Monday’s game at East Syracuse-Minoa, where the Warriors patiently wore down the Spartans in a 3-0 shutout.
It was only 1-0 at halftime, Liverpool constantly thwarted as ESM goalie Rachel Aird would amass 16 saves.
Lamison helped in the getaway, though, scoring once and assisting on tallies by Emily Burns and Marissa Penge. Julia Klein also had an assist as Megan Evangelista kicked away all seven of the Spartans’ shots.
Back home on Thursday night, Liverpool smashed Auburn 6-0, getting three goals in each half as, once again, Lamison proved unstoppable.
No matter what the Maroons tried, Lamison still found a way to get past them, notching a three-goal hat trick and adding an assist. Burns chimed in with one goal and one assist, while Penge and Shelby Peck also notched goals. Kate Osborne and Julia Klein picked up one assist apiece.
C-NS resumed its schedule on Thursday, going to Rome Free Academy and picking up an impressive 2-0 shutout over the Black Knights.
Throughout the first half, the Northstars attacked, waiting for a chance to break through. It didn’t happen until the second half, though, when Sarah Hotaling and Haley Florczyk both put shots past RFA goalie Reanna Zappavigna and Megan Caveny earned an assist. C-NS goalie Hannah White stopped all four shots she faced.
