Nearly 200 runners helped honor the memory of Brian M. Place Saturday by competing in the third annual Manlius Mile races at Mill Run Park.
Forty-four people ran in the one mile open race at 9 a.m., 40 kids ran in the one mile youth race at 9:30 a.m., and 105 runners finished Bryan’s Grizzly 5K challenge at 10 a.m.
Place died unexpectedly in 2010 at age 39 of an aortic aneurysm. A well known financial expert, Place was president and founder of Place Financial Advisors of Manlius.
He was a husband and father of four, as well as a board member of Catholic Charities of Onondaga County.
His family and friends organized the Manlius Mile to recognize his substantial commitment to the local Manlius community as well as his athletic achievements as a distance runner both at Jordan-Elbridge High School and the University of Connecticut.
Proceeds from the Manlius Mile races benefit Catholic Charities.
