Kevin O’Hara couldn’t be happier with the results of this year’s Teal There’s A Cure run/walk for ovarian cancer awareness and education.
About 680 people registered for the fourth annual race held July 4 in the village of Marcellus, an increase of 130 from last year, which allowed the race committee to raise more than $40,000. That brings the total funds raised over four years to more than $110,000.
“It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that the community is backing this cause,” said O’Hara, of Marcellus, who organizes the race with his family. “We’re very grateful.”
The O’Hara family started the race in 2008 to honor Maureen O’Hara, one of Kevin’s six sisters, who is currently battling ovarian cancer. Kevin said the funds raised go toward ovarian cancer research as well as the American Cancer Society and GRACE’S, a local ovarian cancer support group.
