Local vendors are preparing their vintage wares, antiques, artwork and records for the summer 2012 Syracuse Funky Flea Market.
The Funky Flea is an outdoor flea market that hosts more than 50 vendors, including live music and food. It will open on Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Everson Museum outdoor plaza, 401 Harrison St. The theme of the market this summer is “handmade, vintage and awesome.”
“To go from an abandoned lot on the Near Westside to the Everson Plaza in one year seems like quite an accomplishment! I am thrilled with the enthusiasm and support the Funky Flea has received from the community. We have doubled the number of vendors and have many of our 2011 vendors returning for FLEA3,” said founder Theresa Barry in a press release.
Linda Lowen, creator of She Made Studio, a place for women to express their creativity through workshops and classes, will be participating in this summer’s Funky Flea.
“We love being a part of Funky Flea and scoring great bargains from other vendors as well as seeing people take home our hand-picked treasures. Being at the Everson this year kicks it up a notch. Knowing we’ll be selling in the courtyard of a cultural institution that contains works by several of the world’s greatest artists makes it something of an artistic challenge for us to come up with the right mix of offerings,” Lowen said.
The Funky Flea is directed and organized by the 40 Below Public Arts Task Force, a group that works to improve Syracuse’s public art projects, events and happenings.
