Baldwinsville’s boys tennis team improved to 6-0 by meeting Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday and gaining every point in a 7-0 win over the Northstars.
Challenged in first singles, Alec Funicello pulled out a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win over Jason Wisely. Otherwise, it went smoothly on the singles side as Chris Johns routed David Scorzelli 6-0, 6-1 and Tyler Shaban got past Sean Starkweather 6-2, 6-2.
Only one match was close in doubles. Scott Ferrari and Nick Walker got past Zack Maio and Dylan Werts 7-5, 6-4. In the other three contests, the teams of Dan Kot-Grady Schmidt, John Jeffery-Matt Lawrence and Blaine Drake-Matt Rothenhoefer lost just one game in six sets.
Then the Bees were off until Friday, when it beat Central Square by that same 7-0 margin to make it seven consecutive wins.
Shaban blanked Aiden Finnerty 6-0, 6-0, just as Johns got past Tyler Parow 6-0, 6-3 and Funicello gained a 6-2, 6-1 win over Curtis Fosdick.
Among the doubles matches, Kot and Schmidt beat Jeff Lyman and Brandon Payne 6-0, 6-1. By those same scores, Drake and Rothenhoefer got past Dillon McCanney and Mike Grosso, while Ferrari and Walker ripped Josh Bliss and Jamie Krenz 6-0, 6-1. Though they worked a bit longer, Jeffery and Lawrence had a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brandon Ashley and Alex Steria.
All of this leads to the two biggest matches of the season, as B’ville met West Genesee and takes its shot at ending the 207-match win streak of Fayetteville-Manlius on Thursday afternoon.
