In their head-to-head encounter, the Jamesville-DeWitt track and field teams rolled to wins over host East Syracuse-Minoa Monday afternoon, prevailing 104-37 on the girls side and 98-39 on the boys side.
This was all part of a three-way meet also involving Fowler. ESM split that part of it, beating the Falcons 108-32 in the girls contest but dropping a close 71-69 decision in the boys contest.
Rachel Fairbanks and Sierra Vasiliou both won twice for J-D’s girls. Fairbanks ran 800 meters in 2:57.8 and also took the 1,500-meter run in 5:15.4, also teaming with Emilee Carpenter, Hannah Stefl and Laura Wengert to win the 4×800 relay in 10:52.4.
Vasiliou unleashed a top long jump of 16 feet 2 ½ inches, beating ESM’s Amanda Wall (15’ ¼”), who retaliated by claiming the triple jump with 33’ 6 ½” to beat J-D’s Patrece Martin (31’ 2 ½”). Vasiliou, with a shot put toss of 29’10”, edged teammate Tangela Hightower by two inches.
Ally Fox tied Fowler’s Nytasia Survia in the 100-meter dash, each finishing in 13.1 seconds, going on to help Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri and Danielle Doss win the 4×400 relay. Doss and Liz Pieri tied ESM’s Megan Terry as they all cleared 7’6” in the pole vault.
Elsewhere, Noelle Novakowski was first in the 100 hurdles in 18.5 seconds, just ahead of Taylor Cook (18.7), while Allison Semmel held off Maggie Fuller, 1:17.1 to 1:17.5, in the 400 hurdles. Fuller turned around and cleared 4’8” to win the high jump again.
ESM had a couple of winners beside Wall. Gabby Pallotta needed 11:30 to take the 3,000-meter run, while Jessica Drumm earned a victory in the discus by throwing it 76’1”, with J-D’s Brooke DeRoberts (72’8”) in second.
On the boys side, J-D’s Ryan Peters swept the throwing events. He tossed the shot put 42’ 1 ¾”, and had a top discus throw of 122’1”, leaving teammates Charlie Seftic (108’9”) and Koy Adams (101’9”) behind in the latter event despite their own triple-digit efforts.
As for Will Sterriker, he beat Nate Sturgeon, 16.3 seconds to 16.7, in the 110 high hurdles and also won the 400 hurdles in 1:04.1, while Sturgeon atoned with a 400-meter victory in 54.1 seconds. Sturgeon and Sterriker joined Dylan Volk and Alex Wilmot in the 4×400, which J-D won in 3:51.7, while Sterriker, Volk, Taumeras Howard nad Zach Liebmann took the 4×100 relay in 46.6 seconds.
Liebmann, for his part, won the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, but ESM’s Jeff McDuffie stepped in to take the long jump with a leap of 19’ 9 ¼”, with Sturgeon (18’5 ¼) in third. McDuffie also won the 100 sprint in 11.5 seconds, edging Howard (11.6), who countered by taking the 200 in 24.6 seconds as McDuffie settled for third place.
The Spartans’ Jesse Perrone took over in the distance events, covering the mile in 4:52.9 to easily beat J-D’s Nick Harron (4:59.6) before taking the 3,200-meter run in 10:48.2. J-D’s Isaac Tupper won the 800 over Samuel Dye, 2:19.6 to 2:19.8, as the pair joined Wilmot and Austin Philleo to win the 4×800 relay in 9:23.3.
