Baldwinsville Alliance Church has a new name and new mission. Located on Route 48 in Baldwinsville, the church is now known as New Hope.
“The name change was an expression of our renewed desire to be an active part of the Baldwinsville community,” said Lead Pastor Matt Archer. “We want to be part of bringing hope to those who are hurting and to be a visible representation of God’s love by serving those in our community in tangible ways.”
Attending to a congregation of approximately 75 people, the church has been part of the Baldwinsville community for more than 20 years and is part of the greater evangelical missionary movement, Christian & Missionary Alliance, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
“We believe that everyone was created to love God and love others, but regardless of your view of God we believe people will find a great measure of joy as they serve others and put the needs of others above their own,” Archer said. “We changed our name this past fall as we embraced a new vision to extend grace to our community by loving God, loving people and giving of ourselves. These three core values are represented by the icons in our new logo.”
Archer continued saying the congregation has embraced the idea of being ambassadors of hope to greater Baldwinsville.
“[The congregation is] experiencing the joy that comes from giving of themselves. For example, this past holiday season they blessed several local families in need by providing meals, clothing and gifts for children, and even helping to repair an automobile for one single mom,” he said, noting the response has been welcomed as well. “Those we have reached out to in the community have been receptive, gracious and thankful.”
As a Christian church, the primary goal of New Hope Church is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. However, Archer hopes his congregation will do this in a way that is seen and not just heard.
“We hope that our expressions of love will be contagious in our community, and that people of all faiths will be encouraged to love one another and work together to make Baldwinsville an even better place to live,” he said. “We look forward to [continue] being a part of the Baldwinsville community.”
