Rush-hour motorists are by definition in a rush.
But some drivers making their way through the village of Liverpool are in such a hurry they’re breaking the law by running red lights.
At the village board’s Feb. 14 meeting, Liverpool Deputy Mayor Nick Kochan told Liverpool Police Chief Bill Becker that drivers are routinely ignoring traffic stop lights during both morning and afternoon rush hours.
“Especially at Vine and Oswego streets,” Kochan said. “We need to do something about people driving aggressively.”
Trustee Bob Gaetano agreed.
“Just yesterday,” Gaetano said, “I saw three cars rush past the light right after it turned red.”
Chief Becker said he’d alert officers who work both the morning and afternoon shifts.
An estimated 35,000 vehicles pass through the village daily.

Liverpool Police Chief Bill Becker informed the village board of trustees at their Feb. 14 meeting that officers issued 145 citations for violations of the state’s vehicle and traffic laws during January. In addition, 55 warning tickets were issued for minor motor-vehicle violations.
Three arrests were made for driving while intoxicated, nine traffic accidents were investigated and 55 parking tickets were issued
Officers made 1,043 residential checks during the month while investigating a total of 291 complaints.
