Mark Olson’s term as Fayetteville mayor is up this spring, but he has announced his plans to run for the seat for a third term.
“I always said that when I first became mayor that I would continue to do this job and work on behalf of the people,” he said. “I enjoy it today just as much as the first day when I started eight years ago.”
Olson has been mayor for two terms. He served on the village board of trustees for two years prior to that.
“I enjoy working for the betterment of the community, there’s a lot that I still haven’t finished that I want to continue and try to put the village on a sounder footing than we are on right now.”
Olson said the biggest issue as he finishes the second term and runs for his third will be the 2 percent tax cap on the tax levy.
“The budget is always the hardest thing that the village, as a mayor and trustees, has to work on,” he said. “We’re looking at the budget every year. We’ve really been focusing on quality of life projects. It’s those things that we want to continue to do to make Fayetteville very special. Fayetteville is a very nice place to live and we want to continue that and make it grow and make it better.”
No other candidates have declared their intent to run for the position.
