Quickly moving to the top of the Onondaga High School League standings, the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team hosted Weedsport Tuesday night and, led by Cory Knapp and Garrett Farchione, registered a 95-82 victory over the Warriors.
Knapp first helped Jack Martin, Will Farnsworth and Charlie Scheftic win a close 200 medley relay, 1:58.78 to Weedsport’s 1:59.41. Then, on his own, Knapp claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:17.17 and earned an easy 100 freestyle win in 52.96 seconds.
Farchione was first in the 50 freestyle in 24.18 seconds and, in the 100 breaststroke, put up a victory in 1:01.66. Scheftic got his own title in the 100 butterlfy in 1:06.13, while Cole Speidel tore to a time of 1:52.06 in the 200 freestyle.
In the 200 fresetyle relay, Knapp, Ben Katsarsky, McMillen Judge and Nick Street earned first place in 1:44.73, this after Kevin Potocki swam the 500 freestyle in 5:22.24. Matt Wanamaker claimed top honors in diving with 166.65 points, with Alex Dieroff (158 points) in second place.
A day later, Fayetteville-Manlius opened its season at West Genesee, and while the Hornets did have some highlights, it still lost to the Wildcats 98-79.
Kevin Koh would tear to victory in the 200 freestyle, his time of 1:51.22 more than seven seconds ahead of WG’s Collin Zapisek. Koh followed it up in the 100 butterfly with another impressive effort, winning in 53.94 seconds, this time beating the Wildcats’ Tyler Zapisek (56.88).
Later in the meet, Koh teamed with Luke Oliverio, Nate Green and Zach Swanson to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:38.07. Mike Beach was second in diving with 192.65 points.
Harry Rube got second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.18. Will Twichell was runner-up in the 50 freestyle in 24.41 seconds, while Oliverio was third in the 100 freestyle and Green was third in the 200 IM.
Koh, Twichell, Swanson and Chris Rettinger were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.77. Ian Bushnell led WG with wins in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.
