Swimming fans in Skaneateles got an up-close look at some of the area’s top girls performers during Tuesday night’s Onondaga High School League championship meet at the Community Center pool.
And the host Lakers put together many high finishes, especially in the 200 freestyle. There, Nikki Cole and Rachel Teixeria went 1-2, as Cole won in a time of two minutes, 10.18 seconds and Teixeria was second in 2:11.62. Halle King was seventh in 2:19.37.
Of the three relays, Skaneateles did best in the closing 400 freestyle relay, where Teixeria, Cole, Rachael DeWitt and Halle King gained third place in 4:05.56.
Cole was fifth in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.75. She also joined DeWitt, Leah King and Emily Wirth as they got fourth place in the 200 medley relay in 2:05.90. In the 200 freestyle relay, Wirth, Teixeria, King and Ellen Legg to get fourth place in 1:55.71.
Wirth was 10th in the 100 free (1:02.60), just ahead of Halle King, Krissy Chalupnicki, Chezeki Boudreau and Kaleigh Nicholson, all of whom had top-20 efforts.
Legg needed 2:39.14 to take fourth place in the 200 individual medley and DeWitt took sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.64), where Teixeria was 10th and Legg in 12th. Haley Bucholz swam to eighth in the 100 backstroke in 1:14 flat and ninth in the 100 buttterfly in 1:16.33.
DeWitt got eighth in the 50 freestyle in 28.08 seconds, with Wirth (28.27 seconds) in 11th place and Chezeki Boudreau in 17th place. Chalupnicki, Nicholson, Leah King, Kassia Rybczyk, Maddie Bohrer and Taylor Hill also swam in the 50 free, with King moving on to finish 11th in the 500 freestyle.
CBA won most of the events, led by Summer Schmitt, who tore to victory in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.14 and needed 57.98 seconds to prevail in the 100 butterfly.
Now Skaneateles, and all the other OHSL sides, prepare for next Wednesday’s start of the Section III championship meet at Nottingham High School, which runs through Nov. 5.
