For the second time in as many months, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team could not quite measure up to its Laker rivals from Skaneateles.
In this rematch Tuesday night at Buckley Gym, the hosts only got close in the third set, but still were on the wrong end of a sweep.
Having already lost to Skaneateles in a similar three-set affair on Sept. 9, Cazenovia looked for signs of progress early in this contest.
However, Skaneateles was ready, claiming the first set 25-17 and romping through the second set 25-10. At least in the third set, Cazenovia fought hard, going beyond the limit before Skaneateles, by a slim 27-25 margin, closed it out.
Forced into a defensive mode, Cazenovia saw Dominique Lyons pick up 13 digs, while Dana Kiselica and Sam Prossner both had nine digs.
Amara Kattrein (six digs) and Madison Gabor (four digs) helped in this effort as Amber Robinson had 11 digs, to go with five kills and six assists. Emily Stoker added three blocks. Julianna Augustine (nine kills) and Colleen Cargile (12 assists) led the Skaneateles effort.
Two more regular-season matches remain, against Solvay and Syracuse’s Institute of Technology Central, before the Lakers host the Onondaga High School League Tournament next Saturday.
