As they awaited a face-to-face meeting on the final day of the regular season, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls soccer teams still had a little more work to do.
Liverpool’s girls side, racing toward a possible top seed in the Section III Class AA playoffs, played Rome Free Academy on Columbus Day, shutting out the Black Knights 3-0 as it took 20 shots and controlled the flow of play from start to finish.
Julia Heberger found the net twice, while Kayla Bills notched the other goal. Alexis Kline, Courtney Szczesniak and Morgan Wright each had one assist. Liverpool’s defense held RFA to four shots.
Following that, the Warriors were off until the CNS encounter, a 12-day chance to rest, recuperate and fine-tune any things that might be wrong.
As for CNS, it returned to action Friday night, against Baldwinsville, hanging close for a while before falling to the Bees 3-1.
The Northstars fell behind B’ville 2-0 in the first half. During the second half, Lauren DeOrdio put CNS on the board with an unassisted goal, but it wasn’t enough as sisters Emma and Jackie Firenze accounted for all three of the Bees’ goals. Miranda Tanner finished with seven saves.
Aside from the Liverpool finale, CNS also will play at Oswego on Tuesday, looking to stay around the .500 mark.
