A mere 11 days after their regular-season clash at Longbranch Park, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool cross country teams squared off again at Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational.
On the same Jamesville Beach Park course where the Section III championships will take place Nov. 5, the girls Northstars, with 57 points, won the 11-team Varsity Race 3 and the Warriors, with 76 points, claimed second place.
Nicole Waterrud, with a time of 20:24 flat, finished second to South Lewis star Victoria Campanian, who won in 19:44.5.
Jackie Halstead was third, in 20:37.9, while Taylor Parry claimed fourth place in 20:50.5. Katie Laris, in 22nd place (21:47.1), and Madison Kolakowski, in 28th place (22:10.0), rounded out CNS’s scoring.
Abby McNamara, seventh in a time of 20:55.2, led Liverpool’s push, with Kaitlyn McNamara earning 15th place in 21:32 flat. Morgan Mahoney, in 21:39.4, edged out Carloline Dieffenderfer (21:39.7) as they were 18th and 19th, respectively.
Jessica Turner was 23rd (21:52.2) and Rebecca Murray finished 33rd in 22:32.8, ahead of Colburn (37th) and her CNS teammate, Savannah Stevens (39th).
In the boys Varsity Race 3 at Jamesville Beach, CNS’s Anthony Lupia worked his way to third place in 17:23.2, with Neil Gill seventh in 17:44.5.
Mike Crough got 19th place (18:13.9) and Bryan Junod was 20th, in 18:17.8, ahead of Ken Ryan (18:21.8), Colin Greenseich (18:25.2), Kevin Cialfi (18:29.8) and Paul DeGennaro (18:41.9).
Liverpool’s Anthony Ostuni led his side as he took 11th place in 17:51 flat, just ahead of Drew Henry, who was 14th in 18:03.4.
Travis Chewning-Kulick earned 17th place in 18:11.3, with Adam Zinger 24th (18:23.3), Kevin Abel 26th (18:29.6) and Anthony Romano 29th in 18:35.5. Connor Buck, in a clocking of 18:46.0, finished 36th.
