Grocery shoppers can help feed the hungry
For the 20th year, the Rescue Mission’s Scan-Away Hunger campaign will make feeding a hungry person as easy as scanning a coupon every time you grocery shop this holiday season.
Beginning Friday, Sept. 30, and continuing through Dec. 31, Big M in Seneca Knolls, Green Hills in Nedrow, Nichols in Liverpool, Nojaim in Marcellus and 10 Wegmans in Central New York are participating. Struppler’s Shurfine in Fulton is helping from November 15 through December 15.
Every time a shopper tears off a Scan-Away Hunger coupon and hands it to the cashier, $2.13 is added to the grocery bill and a meal is provided to a hungry person at the Rescue Mission. The need is great.
When you’re buying food for your family, it’s easier to think of a hungry person. That and the ease of giving make Scan-Away Hunger, the original checkout campaign, so popular and successful. Since 1992, it has raised $2,304,203 for the Rescue Mission’s food program.
Scan-Away Hunger is also available all year long at 12 Rescue Mission Thrifty Shopper stores in Auburn, Baldwinsville, Binghamton, Cicero, Cortland, East Syracuse, Fairmount, Liverpool, North Syracuse, Oswego, the Valley section of Syracuse, and Watertown.
Besides participating supermarkets, Scan-Away Hunger is sponsored by WSYR-TV NewsChannel 9 and country music station B104.7 FM.
