Now the Christian Brothers Academy boys golf team would have to keep winning in order to hold off rival Jamesville-DeWitt in the race for OHSL Freedom division regular-season honors.
The Brothers went to 8-0 last Monday by beating Phoenix 194-220 at Drumlins. Chris Bousquet matched par with a nine-hole total of 35, two shots ahead of Aidan Fuller. Drew Derrenbacker posted a 39, giving CBA the three low individual totals, as Mark Finlay had a 41 and Matt Preston shot 42.
CBA made it nine in a row on Wednesday, crushing LaFayette 193-255 at Orchard Valley. Fuller, with a 36, beat Derrenbacker by one shot and Bousquet by two shots. Finlay and Preston both finished at 41.
J-D kept up, starting last Monday with a 197-220 conquest of Chittenango at Rogues Roost. Joe Shapiro, with a 37, edged teammate Erik Davis by one shot and Alex Katsarsky by two shots. Luke Sala chimed in with a 41, with Mike Engstrom getting a 42 and Deke Burns contributing a 44. Mike McIntosh led the Bears with a 40.
A day later, the Red Rams met Chittenango again in the makeup of a rained-out Sept. 7 match and again knocked off the Bears 195-215, this time at LaFayette Country Club.
Burns improved to a 35, edging McIntosh by one shot for individual honors, while Davis posted a 37. Brendan Schunk had a 40, with Mike Engstrom (41) and Sala (42) close behind.
Against East Syracuse-Minoa’s Blue team on Wednesday, the Red Rams won again, 194-209. Davis again led the way, with a 35, while Burns managed a 37.
Dan MacDougall and Brian Kiehl led ESM Blue with matching totals of 39, the same as Shapiro, with Katsarsky (41), Sala and Engstrom (42) also playing well. Bryan Reader had his own 42 for the Spartans.
Fayetteville-Manlius, right behind West Genesee in the CNY Counties League, kept pace last Monday by toppling Auburn 185-205 in a match made up from a Sept. 14 rainout.
Anthony Millimaci had a 35 at Highland, with Ryan Keller getting a 36 and Dan Thomas matching the Maroons’ Mike May with his 37. Nick Santaro (38) and Nick Perrucci (39) also broke 40, displaying the Hornets’ depth.
Following up, the Hornets won a weather-shortened 126-132 decision over Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue team on Tuesday at Woodcrest. Thomas shot a 24 for six holes, as did Santaro, with Mike Lee adding a 25. Toren DeRosa had a 26 and Perrucci finished at 27.
Two days later, the Hornets did play all nine holes and handled the combined Syracuse squad 192-204 at Brooklawn. Perrucci braved windy conditions to shoot a 37, with Lee adding a 38. Thomas had a 39, as did DeRosa and Santaro.
East Syracuse-Minoa’s Orange team lost to Homer 199-227 last Monday at the Links at Erie Village. Colin Sloan had a 41, while Kyle Reader had a 43. The Spartans also lost to Tully 221-242 at Vesper Hills, where Corey Goode posted a 45 and Sloan added a 46.
