The Northwest YMCA has hit a major blockade.
At the June 20 Lysander Planning Board meeting, officials said the proposed Y would negatively impact the character of the Radisson community considering its current size and scope for the proposed location at the corner of Route 31 and Drakes Landing.
The board voted 5-0 on a positive declaration in the state’s Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process. A negative SEQR was required before the planning board could set a public hearing and consider the Y’s site plans.
The next step for the Y is to file a Draft Environmental Impact Statement with the planning board to address how the Y can resolve the board’s concerns. The Y can also offer alternative sites.
According to YMCA officials, $1 million has already been invested into the current site as they believe it is the best place for a location in the northwest suburbs.
The Baldwinsville YMCA board of managers and the YMCA of Greater Syracuse board of directors will meet to decide the next step for the Northwest YMCA.
