Anthony Scro has not returned to work at Jordan-Elbridge schools as he had hoped and planned.
Scro intended to return to start back up as district treasurer on Wednesday Jan. 26 but was denied by the Jordan-Elbridge school board, this following a state supreme court ruling Thursday Jan. 20 that the school district must reinstate him as treasurer with back pay. Scro was fired from his position in September.
In a Jan. 29 report by The Citizen , Scro’s lawyer Dominic D’Imperio said he believed the board was ignoring the judge’s order, so he sent the district’s lawyer, Frank Miller, a letter indicating his intent to file a petition of contempt of court. Hours later, Miller sent D’Imperio a notice of appeal.
“I saw it coming, but I didn’t see it coming,” Scro told the Observer Saturday afternoon. “I saw it as a possibility, but I didn’t think that the district would actually follow through and do an appeal on the ruling.”
The school board will vote on whether to appeal both the case won by Scro and the case won by suspended principal David Zehner, where Greenwood found the district to have violated Open Meetings Law, at its next meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 2. The location is currently listed as TBA on the district’s website .
Scro hopes the public will come out to voice their opinion on both pending appeals.
“Being that this is one of their agenda items … it means during the public comment period the public can speak on that agenda item,” Scro said.
