A month spent within the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association did nothing to dilute the Cazenovia girls as it moved to face new competition in Saturday’s Onondaga High School League Liberty/Patriot division meet at Colgate University.
In a field of 10, the Lakers came out on top with relative ease, earning 169 points as Skaneateles took second place with 101 points. The Cazenovia boys were third on its side with 66 points as Marcellus (119.5 points) went to the top.
Paige Biviano, on her own, won twice, taking 9.39 seconds to dominate the 55-meter hurdles (Beth Marcelle was fifth) and going 15 feet 7 3/4 inches in the long jump to edge out Audrey Bowers (15 feet 6 inches), who was second.
Biviano also got second in the triple jump, going 31 feet 11 1/2 inches, just half an inch behind Skaneateles’ Gabby Eckles, with Hannah Light-Olson (29 feet 2 inches) in third place.
Cazenovia began its relay domination by having Jillian Vogl, Jackie O’Sullivan, Hollie Marcelle and Emmajean Speer sail through the 4×400 in 4:24.94 to win by more than six seconds over Skaneateles.
Moving to the 4×200 relay, Bowers, Piper Gianforte, Ashley Winn and Jackie O’Sullivan earned the victory in 1:55.71, more than two seconds clear of Jordan-Elbridge (1:57.98). Caroline Marshall, Hollie Marcelle, Jeannette Cudney and Margaret Wolsey won the 4×800 relay in 10:37.35.
Winn, with a time of 42.34 seconds, beat Vogl (43.50) in a sweep at the top of the 300-meter dash, and won the 55-meter dash in 7.63 seconds as Vogl took fourth.
Marcelle rolled to victory in the 600-meter run in 1:45.75, nearly three seconds ahead of J-E’s Brianna Byrnes. Cudney claimed second in the 3,000-meter run (11:15.13) and Marshall was fourth in the 1,500-meter run, with Rachel Grimm fifth in the 1,000-meter run and Wolsey in sixth.
Cazenovia went 1-2 in the pole vault, as Gianforte cleared 9 feet to win and Michelle McGinnis topped 7 feet for second place. Grace Eberle was second (26 feet 9 1/4 inches) and Molly Woodworth third (26 feet 7 1/2 inches) in the shot put. Laura Fitch, with a high jump of 4 feet 8 inches, also took third place.
Moving to the boys OHSL Liberty/Patriot meet, Dylan Muller earned a victory in the triple jump, going 37 feet 5 inches, more than two feet clear of the field, as Conner Polsin was third with 34 feet 4 inches. Muller, Forest Blanchard, Matt Donovan and Tom Mackowiak took third in the 4×200 relay in 1:50.73, and Muller also got sixth place in the pole vault.
Polsin, Blanchard, Noah Shephard and John Stoker were second in the 4×400 in 3:53.06. Pat Dermody ran to second place in the mile in 4:39.23, with Sean Maliga sixth, and Dermody helped Shephard, Tyler Dunkle and Nick Getzel get third in the 4×800 in 9:34.68
Greyson Barr and Kyle Katterin each threw 34 feet 1/2 inch in the shot put, taking fourth and fifth, respectively, as Donovan added a sixth in the triple jump. Mackowiak was fourth and Blanchard fifth in the high jump, each clearing 5 feet 4 inches.
Chittenango’s boys team posted 59 points in the OHSL Freedom division, good for second place, though well back of Jamesville-DeWitt (182 points) in the top spot.
It included Jason Given edging Phoenix’s Tyler Porium, 1:34.50 to 1:34.53, to win the 600, and Given joining Josiah Durfee, John Durfee and Greg Foster to win the 4×400 relay in 3:48.59.
Josh Bennington was the only high jump contestant to clear a height – 5 feet- and won there, adding a sixth in the 300. Foster, Given, John Durfee and Josiah Durfee took second in the 4×800 (9:02.34) The Bears were fifth in the 4×200.
Kris Ingerson got third place in the 55 hurdles in nine seconds flat. Josiah Durfee got to fourth place in the mile (4:54.54), with John Durfee in fifth. Jason Ceresoli ran to fourth in the 3,200 and Lucas Rogers was fifth in the 1,000.
Chittenango’s girls team had 31 points and finished fifth in the OHSL Freedom standings. Kaleigh Johnson ran to third in the 1,000 (3:30.86), with Kaitlyn Alongi fifth.
Shannon Bunce added a fourth in the 1,500 as the Bears were fourth in both the 4×200 and 4×800 and fifth in the 4×400. Meredith Furtado got fifth in the 300 and sixth in the long jump. Alex Paige edged Brigid St. Leger for fourth in the shot put.
