A total domination of the higher weight classes served the Skaneateles wrestling team well as it went to Jordan-Elbridge last Wednesday night and put together a 43-25 victory over the Eagles.
Every match from 140 pounds upward belonged to the Lakers, four of them by pin. Of them, Chad Gray did the quickest work, at 160 pounds, taking just 1:20 to finish off Dustin Holmes.
In back-to-back matches, Jacob Brillo (189 pounds) pinned Ryan Hubbs in 2:40 and Jacob Kipp (215 pounds) took six fewer seconds to do the same to Jeff Bryant. Up at 140 pounds, Jake Valentino earned a fall over Kalys Zhumakadyruulu midway through the third period.
Also reflecting each other’s work, Jacob Carvalho (145 pounds) took a 13-5 victory over Mitch Cooper, while Jon Leubner (152 pounds) topped Eric Gross by that exact same margin. Chris Wise claimed a 171-pound forfeit.
Amid the lighter weight classes, where J-E won all five of its matches, Kevin Pembridge sneaked in at 125 pounds and recorded the Lakers’ quickest pin of the night, a 48-second dismissal of Colin Ennulat.
This led to Saturday’s Skaneateles Dual Meet, where the Lakers would host Auburn, South Lewis, LaFayette and Chittenango.
And the winning trend would continue, as the Lakers would sweep all of the opposition to earn the first-place trophy.
Skaneateles began with a 42-28 win over Auburn, then rolled past LaFayette 64-18 and pounded South Lewis 60-18.
And in the decisive match between the Lakers and Chittenango, Skaneateles used six straight wins in the middle to sail past the Bears 43-28.
Pembridge opened by pinning Rudy Farsaci, but the real surge began with Carvalho toppling Nic Bacon 12-4. Gray pinned Andrew Kirsch and Brillo, who moved to 171 pounds, earned a pin over Brian Perriello, with Tyler Saunders (119 pounds) closing out the meet by beating Brad Phelps 13-8.
