As it is shaping up, the West Genesee boys swim team’s Jan. 20 meet with Liverpool might decide the CNY Counties League championship.
Prior to that, though, the Wildcats would get a pair of tune-ups, beginning last Wednesday night with a home meet against Rome Free Academy that turned into a 94-77 victory over the Black Knights.
Ian Bushnell, Pat O’Donnell, Mike O’Donnell and Tyler Halsey teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:58.89. Later, in the 200 freestyle relay, Bushnell, Mike Cruz, Andy McFlynn and Spencer Tingley won in 1:45.43.
O’Donnell, on his own, tore through the 100 butterfly in 55.73 seconds, and Ben Seketa took his turn in the 200 individual medley, winning in 2:06.88. Josh Byrne dominated on the diving board, earning 232 points.
Elsewhere, Connor Agen was first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.95), Kevin Taylor prevailed in the 50 freestyle (24.94 seconds) and Carson Elias earned a time of 50.18 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Tyler Olson won the 500 freestyle (5:24.61) as Brendon Marks took the 100 backstroke (1:02.27) and Shawn Davern (1:15.35) beat the field in the 100 breaststroke.
WG (5-0, 4-0 league) would have one more contest, at Utica Proctor on Tuesday, before the Liverpool showdown.
