When the real games got underway, the Jordan-Elbridge girls lacrosse team quickly found a winning form.
The Eagles claimed its opener last Tuesday night, going to Homer and fighting past the Trojans in an 8-6 battle where goals were precious.
J-E won because it had much more diversity in its attack. Six different players scored, with Emily Dillon and Ella Thorpe each finding the net twice. Carrie Farrugia, Hanne Bailey, Amanda Wheeler and Chelsea Maitland earned one goal apiece.
By contrast, Homer got all of its offense from Morgan Osborne and Katelyn Gray, each with three-goal hat tricks. Kelsey Richardson stopped everything else, as the Eagles goalie recorded eight saves.
The Eagles went north on Saturday, playing Fulton on the Central Square turf, and made it two wins in a row, outscoring the Red Raiders 20-12.
Amid cold, wet and windy conditions, J-E jumped all over Fulton’s defense in the first half, bolting to a 13-5 edge and keeping that margin the rest of the way.
Thorpe set a new career mark with five goals, with Farrugia adding three goals and one assist. Dillon, Wheeler, Emily Bates and Kate Dungey each found the net twice, with Bailey, Maitland, Kelsey Armani and Allie Donahue also scoring.
Meanwhile, J-E’s boys lacrosse team started its 2009 season on Friday, against Fulton, taking an 11-10 overtime defeat.
The Eagles had a rough start, falling behind 5-2, and remained in that deficit until the fourth quarter, when it started to dominate face-offs and used a 4-1 run to tie it up, 10-10.
However, the Red Raiders prevailed in the OT. In defeat, Brian Murray, Josh Livingston and Abe Patrick each had three goals, with Jeff Guadagnolo earning three assists to go with his single goal. Fulton’s Brett Williams led his side with four goals and one assist.
