Steve Featherstone — regular contributor to Harper’s Magazine, photographer, radio producer, and Syracuse native — will present on his experiences as an embedded journalist in Afghanistan.
Featherstone went to Afghanistan in 2007, on assignment for Harper’s. His essays, photograph and short stories have been published in a wide variety of media, including Granta, Oxford American, The Walrus, Popular Science, Slate.com and National Public Radio, among many others. His cover story for Harper’s about military robots (Feb. 07) was selected for the 2008 volume of Best American Science & Nature Writing. He is currently writing an article for Harper’s about handguns.
Featherstone will be on campus for two days, March 30-31, as the Communication Program’s 2009 Journalist-in-Residence. He will be visiting classes and conducting a writing workshop for students. For more information, contact Prof. Dan Roche at 445-5470.
