With anchors like Kerriann Borke, McKaye Nuemeister and Sommer Cloinger around, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team had little trouble at last Thursday’s OHSL Colonial National championship meet.
In all, the Northstars won 10 of 19 events and accumulated 199 points, nearly double the total of Liverpool, who was second with 107 points as Rome Free Academy (89 points) took third place.
Borke was the most prolific winner on this day. She routed the field in the 100-meter high hurdles in 15.18 seconds and dominated the triple jump, winning with 37 feet 2 1/2 inches, nearly 2 1/2 feet ahead of Liverpool’s Kaitlyn Flynn.
And in the long jump, Borke won her duel with RFA’s Kaleigh McKinney, going 16 feet 5 1/2 inches as McKinney (16 feet 4 inches) got second. McKinney had already won the 200-meter dash and 100-meter dash, upsetting Baldwinsville star Lareea Chisholm in the latter event.
Cloinger continued her reign over the throwing events. She threw the shot put 41 feet 3 inches, nearly four feet clear of the field, and took the discus with a toss of 108 feet 8 inches.
As for Neumeister, she beat the field in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.92, then turned around to finish second in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.89.
Monique Roberts led a CNS conquest of the high jump. Roberts cleared 5 feet 4 inches, as Gina Thompson finished third and Jasmine Thompson took fourth place, each of them clearing 4 feet 10 inches. Jasmine Thompson was also third (16.27 seconds) in the 100 hurdles.
In distance running, Katie Duerr won the 800-meter run in a clocking of 2:22.20 as Lauren Slocum got third place (2:29.39). Taylor Wendler was victorious at 3,000 meters, covering that distance in 10:52 flat as Alicia Finger (10:56.32) finished third.
Lindsay Raulli had a great meet, pulling away to take the 2,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 7:38.43, and she also earned third place in the 1,500-meter run in 4:58.86.
To cap this off, Slocum, Alicia Greco, Ashley Messur and Mallory Greenseich combined to post a winning time of 9:55.97 in the 4×800 relay. CNS also was strong in the other relays, taking second in the 4×400 (4:11.38) and third in the 4×800 (9:55.97).
Greco got fourth place in the 800 (2:30.33), as Janise Harper finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.04) and sixth in the 200 (27.69 seconds). Rachel Bowles took fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.28) as Brittany Denz finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet 6 inches.
Paige Perry earned 1,598 points in the pentathlon, taking fourth place, as Valerie Langevin worked toward fifth place in the discus (87 feet 10 inches) and Alana Hotchkiss earned a fifth-place triple jump of 33 feet 3 inches.
